Krauss Memorial Library
in the Middle School
The welcoming and positive atmosphere of the Middle School Library is at the heart of our mission. We want to be a comfortable place where students and faculty can seek assistance and find materials and services to help meet the community’s personal and educational needs. Our priority is to enrich and support the educational program of the Middle School.
We especially try to encourage and foster a love of reading in all our students, from the voracious readers to the reluctant ones. We offer comfortable places to sit and read our carefully selected books and magazines for pleasure. We also offer a variety of programs to encourage a life-long love of reading, including Battle of the Books, which brings many area schools together in a spirited competition, book talks, genre book report projects, book cover contests, and author visits.
We think of ourselves as a community space, where people gather to learn and grow in all aspects of school life. Besides being a dynamic place for learning about information, we are also a space for advisory groups, class and curricular meetings, presentations, classes, computer research, and much more. We want everyone to value the library space as an integral part of their school day.
Guidelines
Availability
Students are welcome to use the library during entire study hall periods if a specific project or research report has been assigned by a teacher. Students may also use the library before school, after lunch, and during outside Activities period.
Checking Out Materials
An extensive collection of books and other materials are available for loan with a four week loan period for most items. All library materials may be renewed before their due dates. There will be no fines for overdue materials: however, after four weeks overdue the students account will be charged, including a non-refundable $5.00 processing charge.
Services
Multiple computers are available for student research. Internet access is available with supervision.
