St. John Student Center

The Edward St. John Student Center will become the hub of campus activity, with its dining, teaching, and meeting spaces, as well the infirmary and school store.

  • All students K-12 have comfortable dining space.
  • Lower, middle, and upper schoolers will be able to eat lunch when the meal break fits best into their daily divisional schedules, instead of when the dining hall can accommodate them.
  • The infirmary will be located close to lower schoolers, the children who use health services the most.
  • Flexible space throughout will accommodate meetings, lectures, grade-level gatherings, and special events.
  • A complementary facility to the nearby Ceres M. Horn Theatre, a 174-seat lecture hall, with stage, will provide a much-needed venue for smaller-scale performances, lectures, and meetings.
  • Upper School visual arts will receive best-in-class studios and gallery space to suit its outstanding faculty, students, and curricula.
  • The dance studio will receive a customized space, including a floating floor
  • The Brass Eagle will provide daylong snack and dining options for students and their families.

Dining rooms include one large, dividable space for Middle and Upper schools. The 500-seat, formal dining space and servery. A 150-seat dining room will be contained within it. A collapsing wall will provide flexibility in the two spaces. It will be located on the second floor, which is ground level on the campus-green side. A porch will extend above the southern side entrance.

The dining room interior will be breathtaking, character-filled, and architecturally classic, with large windows, high ceilings, and abundant lighting, as well as acoustic ceiling tiles to facilitate conversation. It will include arched ceilings, wood paneling, and wood tables and chairs.

A balcony will overlook the space from the upper floor. A dining porch will face the south.
