The Dream
A truly great school is an ideal blend of people, purpose, program, and place. Its classrooms, labs, studios, and gathering places invite meaningful connections among students and teachers and remove all limits to students’ achievement. In the process, it becomes a second home.
McDonogh School is already blessed with a fine faculty, promising students, an enduring mission, and an unsurpassed campus for an independent school. The greatest opportunities for improvement exist in the place.
The first phase of the Campus Master Plan, unveiled on May 16, 2010, calls for the following changes:
- Construction of the Edward A. St. John Student Center, with dining spaces for students K-12, visual arts and dance facilities, a 175-seat lecture hall with stage, an infirmary, a meeting room, and a café
- Construction of the Naylor Building, with Upper School science, technology, engineering, and math classrooms and labs
- Construction of an expansive campus green connecting new and existing buildings
- Reconfiguration of Woods Road, with a new traffic signal at McDonogh Road for added safety and improved traffic patterns
- Construction of two artificial turf playing fields and a renovation of the Dutch Eyth Baseball Field
- Construction of two new parking lots to replace those by Lamborn, Elderkin, and Dudley halls—with a net of 50 additional spaces
- Construction of a new energy plant to serve the entire campus
McDonogh intends to employ environmentally sensitive practices, technologies, and materials in all projects.
