Endowment
While McDonogh Forever is primarily a bricks-and-mortar campaign, endowment is an essential component. The McDonogh Forever campaign includes a $2.5 million goal for endowment. McDonogh’s endowment, as of December 30, 2010, was $80 million.
Capital contributions pay for the actual bricks and mortar to construct new facilities. Think of endowment as the savings that supports the people using those new spaces.
The principal builds, untouched, while the interest income:
- perpetuates the scholarship program
- funds teaching chairs to reward excellent faculty
- supports the annual operating budget
- generates income for long-term maintenance of facilities old and new.
